The Department of Surgery is improving the lives of patients through innovative research. Faculty members are engaged in groundbreaking research that examines mechanisms and processes related to diseases that are impacted by surgery. Faculty actively support basic scientific research across a broad range of areas including transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, and surgical oncology. The Department of Surgery has a collaborative research environment in which laboratory-based research is informed by clinical observations.
