Post-Operative Instructions

Following your surgery, it is important to carefully follow the post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Andrew Federer. Please note that the instructions provided here are general guidelines that apply to most patients. However, specific instructions may vary depending on the type of surgery performed and your individual circumstances. Dr. Federer may provide additional written and/or verbal instructions tailored to your specific needs.

  1. Pain Management: Take any prescribed pain medications as directed by Dr. Federer. If over-the-counter pain relievers are recommended, follow the appropriate dosage instructions. If you experience severe or worsening pain, contact our office immediately.
  2. Wound Care: Keep the surgical site clean and dry as instructed. Follow any specific dressing change instructions provided by Dr. Federer. If you notice any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or drainage, notify our office promptly.
  3. Activity and Rest: Follow the recommended activity restrictions and limitations discussed with you by Dr. Federer. This may include avoiding certain movements, weight-bearing, or strenuous activities during the initial recovery period. Proper rest is crucial for healing, so listen to your body and avoid excessive exertion.
  4. Physical Therapy: If physical therapy is recommended, attend all scheduled sessions and follow the therapist's instructions. Rehabilitation exercises and stretches are vital for regaining strength, flexibility, and function.
  5. Follow-Up Appointments: Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments with Dr. Federer. These visits are important for monitoring your progress, removing sutures or staples if necessary, and addressing any concerns or questions you may have.
  6. Medication and Supplements: Take any prescribed medications as directed by Dr. Federer. If you are taking any additional medications or supplements, inform our office, as they may interact with your post-operative care.
  7. Diet and Hydration: Follow any dietary guidelines provided by Dr. Federer. Stay hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water unless instructed otherwise.
  8. Smoking and Alcohol: If you smoke, it is strongly advised to abstain from smoking during the healing process, as it can hinder your recovery. Additionally, limit or avoid alcohol consumption as it may interfere with your medication or prolong the healing process.

Remember, these instructions are general guidelines, and your specific post-operative instructions may differ. If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, do not hesitate to contact our office for guidance. Your well-being and successful recovery are our top priorities.
