Current Research Studies

Wierman/Kiseljak-Vassiliades Lab: Ongoing Translational Research

1

Development of novel adrenal carcinogenesis research tools

Summary: The aim of this project is to develop adrenocortical carcinoma patient derived novel cell lines, as well as development of patient derived xenografts in mice to ultimately use in testing new therapeutics.
2

Approaches to targeted therapy in adrenal carcinogenesis

Summary: The major goal of this project has been focused on exploring novel pathways underlying ACC tumorigenesis to identify new therapeutic targets for the patients.
3

Targeting adrenocortical cancer microenvironment

Summary: The aim of this project is to explore how mitotane and other hemotherapeutic agents alter tumor microenvironment to increase immunogenicity and allow immune therapies to be more effective.

Fishbein Lab: Ongoing Translational Research

1

Understand neuroendocrine tumor formation

Summary: The goal of this project to use genetic and molecular genetic approaches to understand why neuroendocrine tumors, such as pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma, form.
2

Identify markers for predicting prognosis and for targeted therapies

Summary: The goal of this project is to advance personalized medicine for patients with neuroendocrine tumors including pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma.

  • $500-$5,000 will support educational programs for patients, nurses, students and doctors on the diagnosis and treatment of adrenal disorders.
  • $5,000-$50,000 will support pilot projects for basic or clinical adrenal research studies.
  • $50,000-$250,000 will support a post-doctoral fellow's research.
  • $250,000-$2.0 million will support longer-term innovative research to understand the cause of adrenal tumors and markers of tumor progression.
  • $2-5 million will endow a Chair for the Adrenal Program to recruit and retain outstanding clinicians and researchers committed to the diagnosis, treatment and improved care of patients with adrenal disorders.
  • $5-10 million will endow the Adrenal Program to create a premier Adrenal Center for the care of patients with adrenal disorders and to fund research to find better diagnostic and prognostic markers and novel treatment options for adrenal diseases.

Contact us to honor someone you know or love with an adrenal order. We appreciate your support for the clinical, educational or research efforts of the Adrenal Tumor Program!
