Surgical Health Services Research & Informatics Lab
Our research focuses on harnessing the power of healthcare data to identify and develop processes and systems of care, leading to improved surgical patient outcomes. Specifically, the laboratory has been studying improving patient understanding and provider assessment of preoperative risk; using advanced statistical methodology and novel development of artificial intelligence tools to identify adverse postoperative outcomes; development and implementation of patient protocols through our thoracic enhanced recovery after surgery protocol; and identification of barriers to access to care and the application of artificial intelligence to enhance access for surgical oncology patients. Research is currently funded by AHRQ, societal grants and generous patient philanthropy.
We have developed expertise and leadership in the field of surgical informatics with a nationally recognized research team and track record of national funding for this research. Not only does funding facilitate this research, but it also helps train future surgeon scientists to engage in this and aligned research.
