PreAward Shared Services (PASS) is a team of experienced grants specialists providing proposal development support for participating departments at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus. Grant submissions have become increasingly competitive, complex, and frequent, resulting in a need for specialized preaward administrators. Without the resources for a dedicated preaward position, many departments are forced to add preaward functions to postaward positions and increase the administrative burden on Principal Investigators (PIs).

By using a shared services model, PASS provides another option. Participating departments have a dedicated grants consultant who knows their PIs and unique department needs. When there is an increase in grant submissions, unexpected employee turnover or last-minute applications, the full PASS group is available to provide support. The  group provides the individualized attention of a department administrator with the critical benefit of adapting to interruptions in the preaward cycle.

PASS currently supports the departments of Surgery, Cell and Developmental Biology, Physiology and Biophysics, Otolaryngology, Immunology and Microbiology, Ophthalmology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Geriatrics, Radiation Oncology, Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery and the divisions of Rheumatology, Endocrinology Metabolism and Disease, and Hematology/Blood & Marrow Transplant
