The MHA Admissions Committee accepts the GRE, MCAT, and DAT, and these exams are recommended (not required) for admissions.

MCAT:  You may request a Score Report from the MCAT THx System​.  Then simply email a copy of the Score Report to the Academic Services Program Director, Jennifer Thurston (jennifer.thurston@cuanschutz.edu).

DAT: You may email a copy of your DAT scores directly to Jennifer Thurston (jennifer.thurston@cuanschutz.edu) and official copies will be requested if admitted to the MHA program.

The GRE, MCAT, or DAT are recommended for admissions, and the MHA program does not have a minimum test score for consideration.

The average overall grade point average of those applying hovers around 3.35 each year.  Please keep in mind that these averages are based on all applicants (not solely those accepted into the program).

No, students from a variety of academic majors have successfully completed the program. However, we recommend students have some background in general science coursework, which in past student cohorts shows a strong association with the likelihood of success in first-year coursework.

Yes, ​we do accept Committee Letters.  Please have the letters sent directly to the Academic Services Program Director, Jennifer Thurston (jennifer.thurston@cuanschutz.edu), via regular mail or email.​​​

Yes, provided the transcripts are official and sent by the Registrar of the respective college or university and are not transcripts released to the applicant.  Transcripts may be sent to Graduate Admissions (graduate.school@ucdenver.edu) or to Academic Services Program Director, Jennifer Thurston (jennifer.thurston@cuanschutz.edu)

Our application system provides an opportunity to invite referees to submit recommendations electronically, which is highly encouraged.  However, recommendations may also be emailed directly to the Program Administrator: jennifer.thurston@cuanschutz.edu

The ​Admissions Committee extends interview invitations following each of the three application deadlines. The program will offer on-campus and Zoom interview options, with no admissions advantage for either option.  The interviews consist of a curriculum overview, a Q&A session with current MHA students, and a 30-minute interview with a faculty member and a current 2nd-year MHA student.  

If admission materials are missing (for example, only 2 recommendation letters have been received, or only an unofficial GRE score has been reported), you will be notified of the missing materials prior to the Admissions Committee's review of your application. 

The Admissions Committee will convene approximately 2 weeks after the admissions deadline, to allow for supporting application materials to arrive.  If all application materials have not been received by that date, the application will be reviewed "as is."

No. Due to the very structured nature of the 1st year curriculum, students may only matriculate in the Fall semester.​​​

No, the program’s desire is to help students build that background.  A strong interest in learning new technology is important.​

Tuition for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic years is:

• $779 per credit for Colorado residents.
• $1235 per credit for non-residents and international students.​​

The fees at the Anschutz Medical Campus are $133.00 per semester.  Included in these fees are:

• Academic Services Fee:  $75.00 per semester
• Activity Fee:  $20 per year
• AMC RTD College Pass:  $48.35 per semester

The MHA Program does participate in WRGP, which is a tuition-reciprocity arrangement with 15 participating states and 1 Commonwealth.  The WRGP program allows students who are residents of these participating states to pay in-state tuition for the duration of the MHA program.  

In addition to Colorado, the participating states include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. 

For students applying for Fall 2023 admissions, all those who quality for WRGP benefits will awarded. Those wishing to apply for WRGP status must complete the WRGP Application and submit it to the Academic Services Program Director at the same time that the UCDenver application is submitted online.​ ​​​​​

​Students who are not residents of Colorado may choose to establish domicile in the state of Colorado.  Establishing domicile provides the student with an opportunity to petition for in-state tuition benefits for the 2nd year of the program. 

Most Master's programs in the United States do not have graduate stipends; these funds are typically reserved for PhD students.  In the main, students largely fund their costs with student loans.​

The MHA degree is considered a 2-year program (21 months if a student completes the requirements according to the Curriculum Map on our website). Students must take and complete the 43 credit hours of the program in order to receive the Master of Science degree.​

Yes, it is difficult to complete this rigorous curriculum in less than 2 years.  However, students who matriculate with transfer credit have succeeded in graduating in 1 1/2 years.  

Yes, students may transfer a maximum of 16 graduate-level credits into the MHA program.  The courses being considered for transfer credit must meet the following conditions:

• The course must be from an accredited college/university,
• A letter grade was awarded for the course (no pass/fail courses may transfer)
• A grade of B- or better must have been awarded
• The course must be 5000-level or higher
• Course may not be used to fulfill degree requirements for another master's degree
• The course, if taken at University of Colorado, may not be used for undergraduate degree requirements

All courses being considered for transfer must be evaluated by the Curriculum Committee to determine the transferability of the course and how the course may be applied to MHA curriculum requirements.

While the MHA curriculum is primarily designed for full-time students, it is possible to complete the curriculum on a part-time basis.  In fact, several students are currently enrolled part-time.  Students should consult with their assigned advisor to create a road-map for a plan of study to ensure proper sequencing while adhering to the course offering schedule.​

No, Summer semester enrollment is not required.  However, participating during the Summer semester helps distribute 2nd year curriculum requirements over three semesters.​​

Graduate level training at most institutions requires completion of a thesis or a scholarly project. The Capstone Project suffices as the means by which students will demonstrate scholarly achievement at the end of year two of the Master’s program. Students will develop and receive approval of a project that details specific aims, background and rationale, methods, resources and references. Students will learn the basic principles of educational research methodology (such as how to design a survey) and the steps involved in obtaining COMIRB approval.  Students will largely work in one of three thematic areas in the anatomical sciences: general research, technology (including simulation, computer-based educational tools, imaging technology) and educational methodology. Students are expected to invest over 320 hours in completing this work.​

MHA elective options provide an avenue for students to take courses in specific areas of interest. The majority of elective credits are part of the second year program. Students can take 2 elective credits in teaching toward elective credit (beyond the one credit that is required). In addition, students can take up to 6 credits of independent study, which will be counted as elective credit – possibly with a mentor or engaged in some specialized area that enhances work on the Capstone Project. Independent study credits must be approved by the Curriculum Committee. MHA Electives are available through the Anschutz campus and  the CU-Denver campus. 

Yes, you may work while completing the MHA curriculum, however no special accommodations can be made to provide flexibility around a work schedule. For students adhering to the full-time cohort model, we recommend they do not work during the first year.  However, the 2nd year curriculum provides flexibility for work opportunities.  

A variety of choices exist for students in selecting a teaching option. For the one credit required, the program pays for that credit of tuition as compensation for the student’s work. Some students have chosen to teach a segment of gross anatomy in the PT summer program; others have elected to teach in the medical school’s Human Body Block, the Physician Assistant Program, or in the School of Dental Medicine's gross anatomy course. A detailed list of teaching options will be provided so students can consider what fits their time schedule best and where they believe they can do the most effective job. Students are required to take ANAT 6412, Foundations of Teaching, that will assist in gaining a foundation regarding educational methodology. However, continuous study of subject matter becomes primary in ensuring a successful outcome.

Master’s students, whether enrolled full time or part time, have five years from matriculation to complete all degree requirements, including completion of the Capstone Project.  ​

The CU Anschutz Medical Campus (CU-AMC) is located in Aurora, near the Denver/Aurora city borders. AMC is located at the site of the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Garrison​.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU-AMC) is a campus within the University of Colorado Denver (CU-Denver). ​​

The University of Colorado (CU) system is comprised of 4 campuses:  CU-Boulder, CU-Denver, UCCS (Colorado Springs) and CU-AMC.​   

 

The CU Anschutz Medical Campus primarily serves graduate students and those in professional programs - in fact, only 1 undergraduate program is housed at CU-AMC (B.S. in Nursing). Due to this student population, there are no dormitories at the CU-AMC Campus.  ​

Students in the MHA program live in many of the diverse neighborhoods in the Denver-metro area. ​For those wishing to reside next to campus, there are apartments adjacent to CU-AMC, which are popular among students and medical residents.
