This change (from December 31) was made to accommodate the increase in numbers of dossiers submitted for review and will allow the SOM Faculty Promotions Committee to more efficiently and effectively review the dossiers throughout the review cycle.

New Department Proposal—Department of Bioinformatics

Instructor and Senior Instructor Eligibility for Faculty Senate

  • The faculty senate reviewed a letter from the Junior Faculty APP Promotions Committee regarding rules changes to membership eligibility for the Faculty Senate made in Fall 2021 which stated, “Faculty Senate members shall be elected from members…holding the rank of Assistant Professor and above”.

  • With this rule, faculty at the rank of Instructor and Senior Instructor, which includes 39% of all faculty and 95% of APPs, were subsequently excluded from serving as members of the Faculty Senate. The Junior Faculty APP Promotions Committee proposed modifying the Faculty Senate membership rules to include Instructors and Senior Instructors and, as an intermediate step, allowing for two APP instructors to sit on the Faculty Senate as non-voting members

  • The Faculty Senate had much discussion on how and whether to enact this proposal and will be discussed further at future meetings.

  • Please email your Department of Medicine Faculty Senate representatives with any input you may have regarding expanding the membership requirements for the Faculty Senate.

Revision of Grade Symbols section of the Uniform Grading Policy Pass Plus/Pass/Fail Language, Presented by Shanta Zimmer, MD (Infectious Disease)

  • The faculty senate approved a measure to modify the Uniform Grading Policy to incorporate P+/P/F
pass plus/pass/fail into the current policy. This change was necessitated because in Spring 2020, P+ was enacted as part of a COVID-related emergency response and to comply with a new Colorado Department of Higher Education requirement that any P grades awarded must represent a grade of C- or higher.

  • The University of Colorado Educational Policy and University Standards (EPUS) committee of the Faculty Council felt the changes to the Uniform Grading Policy are necessary to comply with the Colorado state requirements.
