Focus of Women in Medicine and Science: In addition to the highly important issue of gender pay equity, other important issues face women with academic careers as well. The focus of Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) for the School of Medicine is on providing leadership training skills internally as well as outside opportunities for leadership training to women faculty (in cooperation with national groups expert in these activities) at all academic levels whether they are researchers, educators or clinicians. In addition, issues of career development face women at all career levels and must be addressed.
Leadership of WIMS: WIMS is directed by Judy Regensteiner, PhD. WIMS has three associated committees. The WIMS committee is comprised of Associate and Full Professors from Departments across the SOM. This group performs the peer review selection of the women faculty chosen for AAMC seminars. All awards are given by peer review process and are very competitive. In addition to the WIMS committee, additional groups working with WIMS include the faculty teachers of Women’s Leadership Training (see below) who co-teach Women’s Leadership Training as well as the alumnae of ELAM (ELUMS) (see below) who conduct the peer review process by which the SOM’s ELAM candidate is chosen annually.
