Background
Andrew M. Novick, MD, PhD, received both of his degrees from the University of South Dakota. Dr. Novick was inspired by the visionaries and trail blazers in the field of women’s mental health research while his own work has been encouraged by his mentors as well as his patients who trust in his care. He is currently a reproductive psychiatrist seeing patients at the Department of Psychiatry Colorado Center for Women’s Behavioral Health and Wellness.
Research + Funding
In 2019, Dr. Novick began his Ludeman Center-funded research project titled, “Effects of Hormonal Contraception on Brain Reward Processing.” His work seeks to better understand how hormonal contraception influences the brain, and how this affects processes related to emotional well-being. Dr. Novick values the center for its high level of investment in award recipients through mentorship and educational offerings.
Transforming Women’s Health
Currently, Dr. Novick has two major focuses of research, including understanding how sex steroids affect mood and behavior and evaluating novel drug treatments, such as psychedelics, for mental illness.
