Dr. Jane Reusch is a Professor of Medicine, Bioengineering and Biochemistry, Associate Director of the Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and staff physician and merit investigator at the Denver VAMC. She is an elected member of American Society for Clinical Investigation, American Association of Physicians and the American Diabetes Association 2018 President for Medicine and Science. Nationally she represents the interests of translational research and recruiting and mentoring the research workforce, especially in women’s health and diabetes.
The overarching hypothesis of the research in the Reusch Lab is that the chronic metabolic, oxidative and inflammatory stress of diabetes decreases resilience and homeostasis, which contributes to decreased functional capacity and diabetic complications. Her shared translational research program with Dr. Judy Regensteiner examines and targets the biological variables in people with diabetes that lead to decreased functional exercise capacity in youth and adults. Ongoing studies seek to understand why this impairment is more severe in women with diabetes than in men with diabetes.
