Research Description
Dr. Daugherty is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She is a general cardiologist and her clinical time is divided between seeing patients in cardiology clinic, performing and interpreting echocardiograms and caring for patients in the cardiac intensive care unit. Her research is focused on defining, understanding and working to eliminate disparities in cardiovascular care. She is interested in understanding the potential role of unconscious attitudes about groups of people (i.e. women, minorities, obese) in how clinicians make clinical decisions. She is also evaluating an intervention aimed at helping patients overcome the negative effects of stereotype threat on their health outcomes. Her work bridges the fields of social psychology and health services research in order to execute interventions aimed at reducing or eliminating disparities in cardiovascular care.
