Fontaine Lab for Neurophotonic Modulation

Lab Mission

Our group aims to alleviate inflammatory conditions through neuromodulation of autonomic nervous system pathways using light-based (optogenetic) approaches.

Collaborations and Tools

The lab collaborates with scientists at CU Boulder department of Integrative Physiology, Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as within the Atlanta Department of Veterans Affairs. We develop nerve interfaces for optical interrogation of neural circuits and perform functional and behavioral testing in pre-clinical models.

Work We Do

Using optogenetic targeting of defined neural pathways, we seek to characterize and modulate therapeutically pertinent mechanisms within the nervous system. Through this selective modulation we study improved treatment approaches for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and associated inflammatory disorders.
