Primary care providers increasingly manage patients with psychiatric conditions where they live and receive care, including clinics, assisted living and nursing homes. While telehealth has expanded access, many patients still face barriers to specialty mental health care, such as insurance limitations, long wait times, poor connectivity, stigma and competing medical needs, leading them to prefer support through primary care. This ECHO series will help clinicians integrate evidence-based psychiatric screening and management into routine workflows, strengthen the use of standardized tools, and improve safe medication management and monitoring—especially for older adults. Sessions will emphasize effective use of low-cost or free specialty support, including eConsults and psychiatry access programs, to enhance integrated care, reduce disparities, and improve mental health outcomes in rural and underserved communities.
