ECHO On-Demand: Screening and Management of Early Stage Type 1 Diabetes in Colorado

Identifying type 1 diabetes (T1D) in patients early is important to avoid potentially life-threatening complications at onset and can also lead to improved blood-glucose levels over the lifetime. For most patients, indicators of T1D are present long before symptomatic onset of disease. This online course provides knowledge about the importance of screening to better identify patients who are at heightened risk for developing T1D or who may already be in the early stages. Experts discuss the options available, how to interpret results, referral guidance and treatment options. Through early detection, patients can be managed at an early age to avoid more serious health impacts and may be able to receive treatment to defer the onset of insulin dependent (stage-3) T1D.
