Division of Surgical Oncology

Marco Del Chiaro, MDWelcome to the website of the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The Division of Surgical Oncology is committed to providing cutting-edge surgical care for cancer patients.

Our Surgical Oncologists are specialized surgeons treating cancers involving the pancreas, liver, biliary tract, gallbladder, colon/rectum, gastrointestinal tract, breast, stomach, and esophagus. We also specialize in other tumor types such as sarcoma, neuroendocrine tumors, and melanoma. In addition, our dedicated Cyto-Reductive and Heated Intra-Peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) team is committed to patients with peritoneal cancers.

The Surgical Oncology group provides modern management of these cancers through the latest surgical technologies including the use of minimally invasive procedures to decrease the impact of operation recoveries. Through the integration of medical and surgical approaches, we are specialized in treating advanced cancers, including several types considered unremovable. Through this approach it is possible to completely remove cancer in more patients and offer them more chances of a complete cure through complex removal and reconstruction.

All our Oncology Surgeons are distinguished faculty members of the University of Colorado School Of Medicine. They are leaders in national and international medical societies, including many as leaders of international guidelines for tumor treatments. In addition, a majority of our surgeons are active committee members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), creating the recommendations for nationally followed cancer treatments.

A unique aspect of our Surgical Oncology Division is that we offer a complete evaluation for cancer treatment through a multidisciplinary approach. All our patients are discussed in dedicated conferences, a collaboration of multiple cancer specialists including surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, gastroenterologists, and endoscopists. This helps ensure that our patients get the best treatment available.

From the first contact with our specialist to the end of treatment, our patients are meticulously supported by our team, reducing the waiting list for diagnostic and interventional procedures, and making the process of a cure easier and more comfortable. Translation support is guarantee for all non-English-speaking patients.

Our philosophy is to create a personalized cancer treatment around every single patient from the pre-operative work-up, through surgery, to the post-operative and recovery period.

We hope that this website will provide you with useful information on our services in cancer care.
