What is PATHWEIGH?

PATHWEIGH is a system designed to help primary care providers and their teams deliver weight management to patients.  PATHWEIGH is not a weight loss program per se.  It is the reclamation of weight management into mainstream medicine. Weight management requires a long-term ongoing relationship between patients and their providers that can change as needed over time.

Why use PATHWEIGH?

Most people in the U.S. struggle with their weight, and primary care can play a role in reducing this health risk.

  • Over 70% of the U.S. adults are considered overweight, and 42% have obesity.
  • An increasing number of medical organization – AMA, WHO and FDA – recognize obesity not only as a risk factor, but as a disease.
  • Medical professional rarely treats it as such. For example, less than 1% of people with obesity are offered anything other than lifestyle advice.
  • Patients desperately want help managing their weight.

The goal of PATHWEIGH is to make weight management easier to do than not doing it. All PATHWEIGH tools, questionnaires, and resources are intended to be highly time-efficient, user-friendly, and employ existing resources. Our goal is to help you help your patients to be healthy and to prevent or manage diseases that result from excess weight.

Who can use PATHWEIGH?

PATHWEIGH is currently available only to select primary care clinics in the UCHealth system because it is being studied with a grant from the National Institutes of Health. All UCHealth primary care practices will have PATHWEIGH by March 2023.  PATHWEIGH is not available outside UCHealth primary care clinics at this time.
