Dr. Jay Kleeman is a fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle specialist. He spent the first 20 years of his career in private practice, in Connecticut, and joined the University of Colorado School of Medicine, as an Assistant Professor, in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, in December 2020.Dr. Kleeman grew up in Connecticut and did his undergraduate training at Dartmouth College. He returned to his home state for medical school at the University of Connecticut. He did an internship and residency, in orthopedic surgery, at the University of Maryland, in Baltimore. He then did his orthopedic foot and ankle fellowship, in Baltimore, with Drs. Mark Myerson and Lew Schon, past American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society presidents, completed their training in 2000.
Dr. Kleeman believes that no matter how well-trained or skilled a surgeon is, it is vitally important that each patient be engaged in their treatment whether it be operative or nonoperative. Even complex concepts should be explained so that the patient understands their disease process and treatment options. Only then can the doctor and patient jointly decide how to move forward with a plan that fits the patient’s needs and lifestyle.
In his free time, Dr. Kleeman enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He enjoys hiking, skiing, fly fishing, golfing, and motorcycle riding.
