Admissions Information

University Email Address

• Claim your university email address
• IT support with university email addresses
• Starting July 1, all email communications from the University will be sent to your university account only. Not reading emails does not absolve students from the responsibilities associated with communications sent to their university email address. Remember to check your official email on a frequent and consistent basis to stay current with university communications.

• Students will receive an email from HireRight to begin the background check process.
  
• Incoming students who do not receive communication from HireRight should contact their Program Administrator.

CANVAS

• Incoming students must watch all of the videos and successfully complete all of the quizzes regarding lab safety from Occupational Health. Successful completion of each quiz unlocks the ability to view the next video. This will be required before access to the vivaria can be granted. 
• Incoming students who do not receive the link and passcode for the courses should contact their Program Administrator. 

SkillSoft

• To access SkillSoft: Log on to your campus portal (https://my.cu.edu)  and select the CU Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus tile
• Click the Skillsoft tile
• Click on the CU Denver/Anschutz button
• Find the appropriate course
  • For EHS Trainings: Open the Environmental Heath and Safety folder from the menu on the left of the screen. Make sure you are on the “Custom” tab (top, middle of screen) and you will see the EHS courses you need to take which are listed below.
  • For OLAR Trainings: Select OLAR from the list of the departments on the left side of the screen.
• Select a course and click LAUNCH.

 Office of Laboratory Animal Research (OLAR) Trainings

After you have completed the trainings, please send the certificates of completion for CU: Animal Program Orientation, CU: Disease Prevention and Control in the Animal Housing Facilities, and CU: Standard Operating Procedures in the Animal Housing Facilities as well as the completed attached Personnel Qualification Form to IACUC@cuanschtz.edu. 

Occupational Health Clearance:

• Complete the Occupational Health Initial Medical Surveillance Form

1. In the PI/Supervisor Field, list Angie Ribera
2. When asked to indicate materials you are working with*:

• Select “yes” for working with Human Cells/Tissue/Blood
• Select “yes” for the question, “Do you work with live animals?”
• Select “yes” for the question, “I perform animal handling or procedures in my new position” and check the box for Rodents
• *While you may not work with one of the above materials, you will still be screened for the appropriate vaccination and health history for these exposures as a precautionary measure.
• Fill out the rest of the form to the best of your ability.
• You may be contacted by Occupational Health for questions or to be seen for an appointment if additional vaccinations or medical counseling are needed before you start your lab work.

All students are required to submit their immunization records through Complio (a third party vendor). The cost to you for this service is $29. Please follow the instructions at the link below. Make sure you select “University of Colorado – Anschutz”, then “SOM – Office of Research Education” and “{PhD Program}” when requested to do so. There should only be one package available for you to purchase.

Badge Form

Submit a photo that meets the following criteria:

• A current, colored passport-style photo showing full frontal view of head and shoulders only
  
• Centered on preferably solid white background with no visible objects
  Eyes open and visible
  
• Hair must be completely tucked behind both ears and shoulders
  
• No hat or head coverings of any kind (religious exempt) and no sunglasses
  
• No gestures of any kind
  
• No filters or digitally enhanced images                     
  
• Minimum width and height of 395 x 464 in jpeg/jpg format
  
• The photo file name must be the first and last name and student or employee ID number.

Registering for Courses

• Course enrollment for all courses begins in early July. You should not need to worry about any of your courses filling up, so it is not vital that you register on that day.
• Please contact your Program Director and Program Administrator to verify what courses incoming students should register for.

Rotations

• Students will participate in laboratory rotations throughout their first year. Programs will work with you in August to determine which faculty are taking rotation students and to help you select your first rotation.
• Please look over the program website and familiarize yourself with the research that our faculty members are doing. This might give you some initial ideas on where you might like to go.

Stipend

HR will be reaching out to you in August with some additional paperwork and instructions. Please make sure that you follow all of these instructions closely as this will be directly related to how you will be receiving your stipends.
