Amos Bailey, MD, Receives Graduate School Dean's Masters Mentoring Award


F. Amos Bailey, MD, professor of medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, received the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Graduate School Dean’s Masters Mentoring Award. This award recognizes faculty who demonstrate a commitment to providing students with a one-on-one, high-quality training experience; maintain high standards of scholarship; and possess personal attributes that make the faculty member an effective role model for other mentors. Faculty are nominated by the master's students whom they mentored for at least one semester and with a significant amount of one-on-one interaction.

Jane E.B. Reusch, MD, Receives National Mentoring Award

Jane E.B. Reusch, MD, professor of medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, received the Endocrine Society Laureate Award for Mentoring. This is the second national mentoring award bestowed to Dr. Reusch, highlighting her contributions as a research and career mentor for many scientists, and her national efforts on behalf of physician scientists, women in medicine in science, and the translational research workforce.

DOM Faculty Receive SUMMIT Award 

University of Colorado Department of Pathology 2021–22 announced its SUMMIT Award for excellence in teaching and the education of pathologists. Anip Bansal, MD, Receives Teacher of the Year Award

Anip Bansal, MD, assistant professor of medicine, Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension, received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Department of Anesthesiology and Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine Fellowship.

Colorado Expands Medicaid Access to Undocumented Pregnant People and their Children

Colorado Governor Jared Polis recently signed HB22-1289 “Cover All Coloradans”, which provides Medicaid for children and pregnant/postpartum people regardless of immigration status. The bill’s passage was made possible by a steering committee composed of community partners and Latinx individuals with lived/shared experience throughout the state and community partners, including Lilia Cervantes, MD, associate professor of medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine.

MILESTONES, APPOINTMENTS, NEW EMPLOYEES

  • Peter Buttrick, MD, will step down as head of the Division of Cardiology effective July 1, 2022. Larry Allen, MD, professor of medicine, will serve as interim division head, while a national search for a new division head will commence in the near future. Read the full announcement
  • The Office of Advancement hosted a reception June 9 in the Anschutz Health Sciences Building to celebrate establishing the Sohrab Amini, MD, FACS, Endowed Chair in Pancreatic Cancer Research. The chair is made possible with a $2 million gift from Christine Amini, in gratitude for the care she and her family received on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The chair is named for her father and the inaugural recipient is Christopher Lieu, MD, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology.
