One of the primary goals of the CUIJBP is to build a robust biobank of samples to include a variety of tissue types and blood derivatives. We have partnered with practitioners in the both adult and pediatric orthopedics, rheumatology and radiology. Through a uniquely collaborative design with each clinic we have built a team dedicated to establishing our remarkable biobank infrastructure.

The CUIJBP biobank provides an opportunity for collaboration amongst investigators with novel research questions. This mechanism reduces the time and effort it takes to develop IRB approved protocols, identify and recruit eligible subjects and collect and process the samples; this system greatly shortens the distance between hypothesis driven data collection and the potential for improved patient care. While our efforts are primarily focused on the collection of human synovium and paired blood, we are also collecting menisci, tendons, entheses, bone and cartilage. We are enrolling subjects from a diverse subject population to include the following:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Spondyloarthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (and other forms of lupus)
  • Other forms of inflammatory joint disease
  • Healthy controls undergoing meniscal repair or other procedure not related to inflammatory or degenerative joint disease
