Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program

The Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program at the University of Colorado is a three-year program that has been in continuous operation since 1977.  David Fullerton, MD, has been the Program Director since 2003. The mission of the Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program is to provide a very well-rounded thoracic surgical education in all facets of the specialty and to prepare graduates of the program to step into careers fully prepared to excel in their chosen subspecialty clinical area.

Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowship Program

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery also offers a one-year ACGME accredited fellowship program in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. This program is directed by James Jaggers, MD, Professor of Surgery, and is housed primarily at the Heart Institute within the Children’s Hospital Colorado. This clinical fellowship program is typically open to candidates who have completed a general thoracic surgery residency program. Upon completion of the clinical fellowship in Congenital Cardiac Surgery, the fellow should be fully capable of functioning as an independent pediatric cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon.
