Global Surgery: Stories & Updates

We would like to introduce our inaugural Global Surgery Fellow, Dr. Ton Chi Doan, MD!

Ton Doan, MD

He was born in a small mountain town in Vietnam and immigrated early in his childhood to the United States. He was raised in Chicago, IL and attended Northwestern University where he worked for several years as a basic science researcher for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, using animal models to study effects of matrix protein components in hematopoiesis. He later obtained his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he worked with Dr. Margaret Schwarze on shared surgical decision making in high-stakes surgeries and Dr. Samuel Poore on the safety of gender-nonconforming patients undergoing gender affirmation surgery. During his time, he also co-founded What Brings You In Today?, a narrative medicine podcast showcasing the medical humanities, art, and the perspectives of those in the medical field. He is currently undergoing general surgery training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Having recently completed his second year of residency, he will join us for the next two years serving to grow our global surgery program.

Please welcome our Fellow, Dr. Doan!
