Before Your Surgery


​Preparing for your surgery

  • Call 720-848-6070 after 2pm the business day before your procedure to get check in time
  • Starting the night before surgery, you will be advised to not eat or drink anything until after your surgery
  • Ask you doctor about any medications you should start/stop before your surgery
  • Avoid wearing make-up, nail polish, contact lenses or dentures
  • Leave valuables at home
  • If you smoke, quit
  • Plan for your return home.  Who can help you and drive you to appointments?
  • Talk to your doctor about pulmonary rehabilitations and breathing exercises for after surgery

Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns you may have prior to your procedure with your doctor and health care team.  The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division Patient Affairs Coordinators, staff and case managers are happy to answer any questions you might have in preparation for your upcoming surgery.
