CoBE is dedicated to educating patients, families, and providers about bipolar disorder in order to improve the lives of those affected by the illness. Bipolar disorder is most often a lifetime illness with peak age of onset between ages 15 and 19 years old. Psychiatric disorders that start this young, during one’s formative years, have a prolonged and profound negative impact on an individual’s education, social interactions and professional achievements.

The annual financial cost of bipolar disorder in the US is estimated to be $202 billion when considering the costs of hospitalizations, complex and expensive care, and medical management of associated diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
