POCUS Credentialing

Our institution has clear POCUS credentialing delineations. We encourage our faculty to become credentialed in lung ultrasound due to its enormous value in the field of hospital medicine. With 18 credentialed faculty to perform POCUS (and counting), our team brings expertise and experience to the bedside. Lung POCUS Credentialing Requirements

  1. Participation in DHM lung ultrasound workshop.
  2. Image Portfolio:
    1. At least 25 exams that demonstrate adequate image acquisition and image interpretation.
  3. Examples of each of the following:
    1. Evaluation for PNA: 3 examples which include signs of PNA – either focal b lines, subpleural consolidation, or hepatization in at least an 8point exam  
    2. Evaluation for interstitial syndrome (ex. Pulm edema): 5 examples of interstitial syndrome using at least a 6point exam
    3. Evaluation for pleural effusion: 5 examples of pleural effusion (at least 2 complex)   
  4. The first 1-5 portfolio exams will be performed with a credentialed clinician present at the bedside to provide hands-on supervision of image acquisition.
  5. Completion of a short "clinical pitfalls" online multiple choice test
  6. 2-3 hour proctored scanning session demonstrating competency in all three domains.
