We are committed to empowering people with FND, their caregivers and the greater community by offering evidence-based treatment, innovative research, and education. For those in our care, our goal is to optimize their wellness, improve their quality of life, and prepare them for the next phase of the recovery journey.
Functional neurological disorders are brain-based conditions where there is a problem with how the brain and body send and receive signals, leading to real and often disabling neurological symptoms. These symptoms can include functional seizures, movement changes, weakness, sensory symptoms, speech difficulties, and problems with attention or thinking. FND is a recognized neurological disorder caused by changes in nervous system functioning—not by structural damage to the brain—and symptoms are real, involuntary, and treatable.
The University of Colorado FND Clinic was established in 2016 as one of the first comprehensive programs in the nation dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of functional seizures. Since then, our program has grown to provide multidisciplinary care for individuals with functional/dissociative seizures and functional movement disorders, combining neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, research, and education to support the FND community.

The seizures cause epilepsy-like symptoms but tests don’t reveal changes in brain activity that diagnose epilepsy. The FND Clinic at UCHealth provides neurologic and psychiatric care for patients struggling to understand their often debilitating symptoms.
Belonging is a powerful part of healing, and research shows that feeling understood, supported, and connected can influence the brain, health, and recovery, highlighting the role of community and group therapy for people living with Functional Neurological Disorder.
