Improving healthcare through research and education

The mission of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research (HCPR) is to design and conduct health services research, policy analyses and evaluations of innovations, programs and policies that increase the value of health care services from multiple perspectives.

HCPR faculty members investigate how dissemination, implementation (as well as de-implementation when appropriate), and sustainability of innovations in health care services, payment models, quality improvement, quality measurement approaches and delivery system structures influence individual and population-level outcomes, health disparities and value throughout our healthcare system. In addition to grant funded projects, HCPR actively pursues contract funding from federal and state government agencies.

The Division is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of researchers leading and contributing to innovative projects that focus on:

  • Medicare and Medicaid policies and regulations
  • Clinical and system interventions aimed at improving health system performance, quality and value, including long-term and post-acute care services (e.g., nursing home, home health and transitional care), hospice and palliative care
  • Health outcomes research
  • Health insurance benefit design
  • Improving patient safety in all settings
  • Reducing health care disparities
