Advanced Nephrology - Clinician Educator Track
This track provides fellows with the knowledge and skills to become clinician educators. This track is designed to develop future leaders in medical education. The track focuses on the core components of educational scholarship and curriculum development.
The first two years of the program are similar to the two-year clinical track. The third year of training is dedicated to clinician educator training. The clinician educator pathway is a mentored pathway. Fellows have a focused curricular element as well as experiential teaching elements. Fellows must also complete a project in a designated area of focus. Fellows will participate in a 3-week Medical Educators elective and participate in either the Teaching Scholars Program or the Teaching Certificate Program, which are offered through the CU School of Medicine Academy of Medical Educators. Quality Improvement training is also available if fellows have an interest. Additionally, fellows have required teaching of residents and/or students in clinical settings several times per week.
The Clinician Educator Track consists of the following:
- Mentorship and guidance
- Afternoon seminar series on educational theory, curriculum development, program evaluation, etc.
- A curriculum development project and/or education scholarship project
- Required teaching of residents and/or students in clinical settings (e.g. renal consult service, renal outpatient clinics) several times per week
- Required teaching of medical students in classroom based settings such as the Problem Based
- Learning (PBL) and the renal pathophysiology small groups.
- Required teaching of residents in classroom based settings (e.g. noon conference)
- Attend relevant medical education workshops
