Philanthropy Headers

We are grateful to all who ask, "How can I help?"

The Movement Disorders Center is committed to serving its community and providing cutting-edge care for individuals affected by neurological conditions that impact the ability to move. Through comprehensive diagnoses, personalized treatments, and ongoing support, we strive to make lives better for our patients and their families.

Philanthropic support is critical to our ability to continue advancing our clinical services, research, and education. Your contributions help fund groundbreaking research, education for the next generation of movement disorders neurologists, and resources that empower patients and their loved ones.

With your generous support, we can continue our mission to provide hope and healing to those affected by movement disorders while working to better understand and treat these neurological conditions.

Thank you for your support and for joining us on this essential journey.

Movement Disorders Fellowship Program

We train four movement disorders neurologists each year - two first-year fellows and two second-year fellows. To date, we have trained 24 movement disorders fellows who are practicing in academics and areas underserved in movement disorders.

Philanthropic support allows our fellows to attend national and international conferences to learn about cutting-edge ideas and research happening in movement disorders. The conferences provide a chance for fellows to network and establish opportunities for them to collaborate with movement disorders neurologists worldwide on research that might just be the next big breakthrough in movement disorders.

Larger philanthropic donations to our movement disorders fellowship program provide salary and benefit support for our fellows. This support guarantees that the fellows have more time to spend in a teaching environment mastering the essentials of movement disorders.

To learn more about supporting our fellowship and how our fellowship program helps our community, please visit the Fund-a-Fellow page.

Pilot Grant Program

The Movement Disorders Center encourages young researchers to pursue careers in movement disorders through our pilot grant funding. In 2015, the MDC established its pilot grant program to help these researchers launch their careers and inspire them to dedicate their research to helping the movement disorders community. These projects can be clinical, translational, or basic science and can be from other institutions.

Applicants are encouraged to involve faculty from the Movement Disorders Center, especially if their projects involve patients with movement disorders. Applicants provide regular progress reports and are expected to present their projects at the University of Colorado Movement Disorders Center Annual Research Retreat.

Preference may be given to projects led by learners with quality projects that are unlikely to be funded by other sources. Historically, several of these grants have led to additional funding from national sources and many publications.

Community Outreach

Philanthropic support helps the faculty of the Movement Disorders Center provide free educational symposia, events, and webinars. It allows them to travel across the region to make sure all of the Rocky Mountain area has access to up-to-date information that is important to the community's health.

Support in this area also ensures the continuation of our monthly e-newsletter and timely updates to our website.

I can't give right now, but I want to help.

We recognize that philanthropic support is a privilege. There are many other ways to support our center besides philanthropic giving.

A great way to support the Movement Disorders Center is by empowering the movement community through education about what to expect with their diagnosis, current therapies and medications, and other resources available. Community isn't just those living with diseases. It's their family, care partners, and friends.

Be an ambassador.

Invite your friends, family, members of your support groups, your primary care providers, and others to attend a free educational event hosted by the Movement Disorders Center. Invite them to learn more and understand why the Movement Disorders Center is an important resource in the Rocky Mountain Region.
