My education and work background in physical therapy are what turned my attention to the importance of DEIA. I decided to work in healthcare when I was still in high school because I cared about promoting health and wellbeing for ALL people. Then during school and as I entered the field, I learned more about health disparities, especially those affecting BIPOC people, and I realized the deeper work that we have to do on issues of health equity. I feel strongly that every person deserves access to the highest quality of health care and quality of life, and that's what drives me to do that work.
On a more personal note, I know that I have so much to learn from people whose lived experiences are different than mine. My life is richer for the connections that I have with people who identify differently than I do in race, gender, culture, sexuality, physical ability, and religion. We are all stronger and more capable of leaving a positive mark on the world when we come together and make welcoming space for a diversity of people and perspectives.
What is a quirky fun fact about yourself? I live about a mile from the rim of the Grand Canyon!
