Rotations

Rotations & Schedule

Each rotation is 4 weeks in length. Fellows also spend one-half day per week in an outpatient continuity clinic.

University of Colorado Hospital Consult Service

The consultation service builds the foundations for a broad knowledge base in inpatient nephrology, by providing fellows exposure and opportunities to manage tertiary referral patients, local referral patients, as well as primary care patients. Fellows will learn the diagnosis and management of acute kidney injury, hypertension, fluid and electrolyte disorders and dialysis modalities. Additionally, fellows will perform renal biopsies and place central lines for dialysis access.

Kidney Transplant Service

During this rotation, fellows rotate on the inpatient kidney transplant service and in the outpatient transplant clinic. Fellows learn the diagnosis, management and treatment of transplant candidates and recipients. Fellows will become proficient in US-guided transplant biopsies and will gain experience with inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical post-transplant management.

Denver Health Consult Service

On this acute consult service fellows will learn the diagnosis, management and treatment of all types of acute kidney injury, fluid and electrolyte disorders, hypertensive emergencies, toxic ingestions and the care of hospitalized chronic dialysis patients. Fellows perform renal biopsies and place central lines for dialysis access.
