Research interests:
My research focuses on obesity prevention and treatment early in life, in combination with characterizing risk factors in early childhood that may increase or mitigate overweight and obesity development. I have a special interest in the interplay of diet, behaviors and gut microbiome on growth trajectory and risk of overweight in infants and young children. Our group recently discovered that different types of protein-rich foods have differential impact on infant growth and body composition. We are conducting mechanistic investigations with a focus on gut microbiome. Our goal is to advance the understanding of how early dietary and behavioral variables interact with gut microbiome to impact growth and risk of overweight. From there, we can develop effective interventions to promote optimal growth. We conduct human clinical trials, feeding studies and apply –omics techniques to our research.
