As announced on January 25, Kathryn (Kathi) Wells, MD, FAAP, has been appointed as the next Section Head for Child Abuse and Neglect, and Executive Director of the Kempe Center.
Dr. Wells began her tenure as section head on February 1, following a comprehensive national search to replace the retiring Dr. Desmond Runyan.
Dr. Wells joins us from Denver Health, where she has been the Medical Director and Team Lead for the Denver Health Clinic at the Family Crisis Center since 2003. She is well known to the Kempe Center extended family, having served as a member of the Child Protection Team at Children’s Hospital Colorado since 2003, and as a Clinical Researcher in the Kempe Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect since 2013.
Please join me in in offering a warm welcome to Dr. Wells.
Faculty Publications Top 1,200 for 2018
The Colorado Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) recently completed a comprehensive review of peer reviewed articles published in calendar year 2018.
Utilizing the Colorado PROFILES search engine tool, 1,210 publications from Department of Pediatrics faculty were identified (via PubMed). This tremendous volume of scholarly output from our faculty and their research teams is a measure of our commitment to scientific finding and discovery. Our publication record enhances our academic reputation that is key to program rankings, such as U.S. News & World Report.
Our faculty were published in a wide range of journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of Pediatrics, the Lancet, and multiple sub-specialty journals.
Congratulations to all of those with 2018 publications and for your contributions to the field of pediatrics.

Faculty Council Communications Committee Survey
The Faculty Council Communications Committee is creating a system-wide faculty guide to point faculty in the right direction for everything they need to know, from getting a key for their office, to saving for retirement, to getting their research in the news, to finding a writing group, to finding the best transportation, to participating in faculty governance.
To assist in the development of the guide, the Committee is conducting a brief (5-10 minute), informal, and anonymous survey about providing information to faculty. Click the link toparticipate in the survey.
From Andy Sirotnak, MD (Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs), “this is a system-wide and Anschutz Medical Campus effort to address communication improvement work and should be viewed as helpful in improving items noted in the School of Medicine climate survey.”
