Department of Pediatrics has produced a 216-page coffee table book on the history of this prestigious department, beginning with its founding in 1930. The book is designed with a pictorial timeline as the centerpiece, giving readers a chronological
account of the Department’s achievements and the people who made them happen. The narrative was written in a journalistic, story-telling manner that conveys the heart of this Department’s rich legacy as well as the high points of the nearly nine decades. Together, these components create a retrospective of the Department’s
contributions over 88 years in the areas of clinical expertise, training, research, advocacy, and innovation.
Past and current faculty have been generous in sharing highlights and photos, allowing the Department to assemble a strong collection
of images, milestones, profiles, and reflections.
It is important to understand the history of an institution as it can be a cause for celebration and create the platform for future accomplishments. This was the impetus to revisit the milestones
of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in our partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Reynolds Appointed Developmental Pediatrics Section Head

The University of Colorado Department of Pediatrics announces the appointment of Ann M. Reynolds, MD as the next Head of the Section of Developmental Pediatrics. Dr. Reynolds was selected following a comprehensive national search conducted over the past several months.
Dr. Reynolds joined the University of Colorado and Children’s Hospital Colorado in March 2000 as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. Prior to coming to Colorado, she held academic appointments at the University of North Dakota (1993-1994) and Baylor College of Medicine (1996-2000). Dr. Reynolds received her medical degree (Alpha Omega Alpha) from the Medical College of Georgia in 1989. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center (1989-1992) and obtained her fellowship training in Developmental Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (1994-1996).
Since joining our faculty, Dr. Reynolds has served as Clinical Medical Director for Developmental Pediatrics (2018-2023), completed the University of Colorado School of Medicine Institute for Healthcare Quality, Safety, and Efficiency Certificate Training Program (2019), and directed the Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Fellowship program (2002-2005). Dr. Reynolds has a national reputation as an expert in autism spectrum disorders having served on the Autism Speaks Scientific Review Committee, the Autism Treatment Network Scientific Review Committee, and the Autism Intervention Research Network for Physical Health Steering Committee.
She has an ambitious agenda for leading the Section of Developmental Pediatrics and contributing to the continued growth of the Neurosciences Institute with a focus on expanding the Section’s multi-disciplinary subspecialty programs with an emphasis on innovation and excellence in clinical care, advocacy, research, and education.
The Department is grateful for the outstanding service of Dr. Sandra Friedman, who has led the tremendous growth of the Section over the past 14 years. We are fortunate that Dr. Friedman will remain an active member of the Section in her role as Professor and leader of the Section’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND), and University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) education programs.
