Department Ranked 8th in the Nation by U.S. News

The University of Colorado's Department of Pediatrics is tied for eighth in the nation for "Best Pediatrics Programs" in rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. The Department of Pediatrics consistently ranks among the best in the nation. The Department has been ranked in the top eight in each of the past 13 years.
"This ranking illustrates an extraordinary and collective effort on the part of our faculty and staff. With all the challenges over the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m incredibly appreciative of the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices that everyone has made," said Stephen Daniels, MD, PhD, professor and chair, Department of Pediatrics, CU School of Medicine, and pediatrician-in-chief, Children's Hospital Colorado. "Our top ranking is a demonstration of the importance of our campus partnerships with the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado. We will continue to strive to provide the absolute best clinical care, research, education and advocacy that helps improve the health of children in Colorado and across the country."
The rankings were part of the "Best Medical Schools" rankings U.S. News compiles every year.
The University of Pennsylvania ranked first, followed by Harvard University. Rounding out the top eight were the University of Cincinnati (third), Johns Hopkins University (fourth), the University of California – San Francisco (fifth), the University of California – Los Angeles (sixth), Baylor (seventh), and Stanford (tied for eighth).
In addition to the No. 8 ranking by the Department of Pediatrics, the CU School of Medicine specialty program of Family Medicine was ranked seventh. Additionally, the University of Colorado's School of Medicine was ranked eighth in the magazine’s list of best medical schools for primary care, and the CU School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program was ranked No. 8.
The magazine provides rankings of specific specialties based on ratings provided by medical school deans and senior faculty from surveyed schools.
