Introductory Training Program

IHQSE’s Introductory Training Program in Quality Improvement (ITP) is a one-day course and emphasizes fundamental principles and skills necessary to participate in quality improvement initiatives in clinical settings. Many healthcare professionals are asked to participate in quality improvement and safety projects yet have no formal training.  ITP is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of quality improvement necessary to participate in successful quality improvement projects.

In-Person Course Overview


The course offers over 8 hours of content that covers the fundamentals of the quality improvement process and change management. This course teaches teams and individuals a wide variety of improvement, leadership and change management techniques intended to begin to develop improvement leaders throughout the enterprise. Topics include an introduction to the different improvement methodologies and tools; hands-on learning activities; an understanding of change, its impact on an organization and methods to manage it; and an introduction to data science.


Virtual Course Overview

The virtual format consists of 3-4 hours of pre-work of videos that review the core Quality Improvement principles. During the 4 hour virtual session, you will spend the bulk of the session applying these principles to your specific project work and helping you to advance those improvements efforts.
