Our research focuses on the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of youth sport-related concussion. We conduct clinical research in a variety of different settings, centered on improving health outcomes following a concussion. We study this important clinical problem in a translational fashion, through the use of laboratory and clinical approaches. Through our observational work that incorporates biomechanical, clinical, and epidemiological approaches, we aim to identify pragmatic and effective rehabilitative methods to improve outcomes following concussion.
Concussion has been documented to affect gait and postural control, however many of the techniques used in clinical practice rely on subjective evaluative methods. We are working on ways to quantify motor performance, particularly under dual-task conditions, as an assessment approach to determine sport readiness following a concussion. Through our work, we hope to translate our findings from laboratory to clinical settings.
