COVID-19 and pregnancy: Data are accumulating slowly to tell us how COVID-19 may play out in pregnant women. This past week we have learned about at least one probable case of vertical transmission of COVID-19 from mother to infant, and pregnant women are appearing in ICUs around the country with pneumonia. While there are reasons to worry that pregnant women who are relatively immunocompromised might have a worse clinical course with COVID-19 based on other similar viruses, there is currently not enough information to suggest that this is the case and the pattern of illness with COVID-19 (older versus younger adults overwhelmingly more affected) seems to differ.
Given these unknowns, we will try to send you information as we get it to help you understand what the clinical landscape looks like not only in our own backyard but across the nation and the world as we refine our knowledge base. Some of the information may be conjecture and some may be proven false. We are learning day by day.
