    Welcome to Neurology Clinical Research!

Neurology is one of the largest clinical research enterprises in the University of Colorado School of Medicine, with over 250 active studies/clinical trials in different phases of completion (study start-up, enrolling new participants, and follow-up of current participants). Our research program includes over 50 clinicians/scientists and over 50 operational staff and study coordinators who manage the studies day-to-day. Additionally, our worldwide collaborators include experts from academic institutions and leaders in the clinical research field. In 2021, we had 929 recruitment communications (phone contact, email, in person contact, etc.) per month, on average, and 3,403 clinical research participant visits in total!

    New to clinical research?

Principal Investigator (PI): the clinician responsible for conducting the clinical trial.

Research Services Professional (RSP): title of clinical research coordinators at the University of Colorado. The RSP will coordinate research visits and help the PI best manage the participant’s care.

Research is critical to help us advance our knowledge of neurological diseases in order to better care for our patients. We also welcome healthy participants to participate in our studies! Learn more about clinical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) website. For those interested in designing clinical neurosciences trials, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS) offers Clinical Trial Methodology courses and several webinars to help investigators.

We offer a variety of clinical research:

    • Drug Studies
    • Non-drug Treatments and Interventions
    • Device Studies
    • Observational (blood draw studies, questionnaire studies)
    • Biobanking
    • Patient-reported Outcomes
    • Imaging (MEG, MRI, fMRI, PET scan)
    • Quality Improvements
    • A Translational Lab and Tissue Bank

Many studies are Investigator-Initiated, or designed by our outstanding physicians. From observing their patients, these physicians pose important questions to investigate the difficult questions of neurological disorders. Other studies receive funding and support from pharmaceutical industries, private foundations, private donors, and government agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Join us and become a part of the Neurology Clinical Research family as we aim to become a Center of Research Excellence! Explore the areas enrolling participants at the sidebar on the right.
