With 16 divisions and more than 1,000 faculty members, the Department of Medicine is the largest academic department with the CU School of Medicine. Each member of our extraordinary faculty is passionate about driving growth and increasing capacity within the system they work to research, discover, evaluate, innovate, teach, and continuously learn and grow.

Located at CU Anschutz Medical Campus, our faculty enjoy the perfect home for nurturing collaborative efforts, promoting cross-pollination of ideas and transforming the future of health care.

Faculty Advancement

The Department of Medicine strongly believes in investing in our faculty. Our mission is to foster ongoing professional development for all levels of faculty in the department. We are committed to providing services and programs that promote career advancement and success of our faculty in each of the unique dimensions of our mission – education, research, patient care and community service.

Faculty Promotions

The Department of Medicine’s promotion and tenure process occurs on an annual cycle.

Faculty Performance

All full-time CU School of Medicine faculty members who are employed by the University of Colorado are required to complete an annual review within an online review system called PRiSM (Performance Reviews in the School of Medicine). Denver Health and Veterans Administration-based faculty members must also participate in annual performance reviews, using a different system which is based at their home institution.

Our faculty work collaboratively to create an aligned vision to deliver the highest quality of care, train the next generation, and support impactful scholarship. Additionally, our faculty are regularly recognized for their outstanding contributions with the following honors:

Rising Stars – Recognizes outstanding early-career faculty who exemplify the department’s core values of excellence in patient care, research, education and community service.

Outstanding Early Scholars – Provides support to early career of DOM research-intensive junior faculty. Funding provides the foundation for enhanced development of novel high impact papers and new research accomplishments.

Innovator Awards – Recognizes faculty members who contribute constructively to the department’s mission through service, research, education and other professional activities, which enrich the culture in our department and who have championed the cause of equality and justice.
