Ryan Marker, PhD, PT

Dr. Ryan J. Marker is an Assistant Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (2011) and PhD in Rehabilitation Science (2015) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. During this time, he investigated the neurophysiologic mechanisms of stress-induced muscle activity and neck pain. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center working with the BfitBwell Cancer Exercise Program, investigating an exercise intervention for pancreatic cancer survivors undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy and preparing for surgery. He has clinical experience working with geriatric patients in skilled nursing facilities.

Dr. Marker is currently the Director of the BfitBwell Cancer Exercise Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, overseeing all clinical and research activities of the program. His personal research agenda includes developing and implementing effective exercise interventions for cancer survivors living in rural areas and from other underserved populations and utilizing exercise as an intervention to remediate cancer-related fatigue. He facilitates the integration of the BfitBwell Program and its services into collaborative and transdisciplinary research investigations, including clinical trials of nutritional interventions for survivors and state-of-the-art multi-omics studies of the physiological effects of exercise in survivors. He is a full member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center and currently serves as the Scientific Liaison for the Cancer Prevention and Control Program. In addition to his work in oncology, he has developed and directed fitness programs for patients recovering from addiction, patients recovering from bariatric surgery, and patients with chronic kidney disease preparing for transplant.
