Our program, established in 1977, was one of the first federally funded primary care training programs in the nation. Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency
- Being one of the premier primary care residency training programs in the country with a focus on care of vulnerable populations
- Providing flexibility in our primary care curriculum to prepare program graduates for careers in clinical practice, academic general internal medicine, and/or to pursue training in primary care specialties such as geriatrics, palliative care, and public health/GIM
Our program integrates the educational resources of the University of Colorado Hospital, the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Denver Health and Hospital Authority.
In fact,Denver Health is the 10th most socially responsible hospital in the nation according to a March 2023 Lown Institute ranking. The non partisan health care think tank ranked 3,600 hospitals across the country based on metrics in 3 main categories: Health Equity, Value, and Outcomes. Denver Health scored an 'A' grade in all three of those areas and ranked first in the state of Colorado. Denver Health is an academic, safety net hospital in an urban setting.
