Our Mission

The Gates Summer Internship Program (GSIP) encourages outstanding undergraduates to consider careers in biomedical research and regenerative medicine. State-of-the-art training opportunities are provided in the Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine members' laboratories.

2021 Application Information and COVID-19 Announcement

The 2021 application period was from Monday, December 14, 2020 - Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Due to COVID-19 pandemic limitations, we regretfully cancelled our summer 2020 in-person research program.  We offered virtual internships, conducted a summer webinar series and have extended 2021 summer position offers to all of our 2020 class. For this reason, 2021 internship spaces may be limited. Additional information regarding the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus response to COVID-19 can be found here.

2021 Program Information & Requirements
(Updated on March 26, 2021)

A committee of Gates Center faculty will select highly qualified undergraduates to work full-time in laboratories located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Selected applicants will be contacted by email in late March/early April and will have a specified period of time to accept the internship offer and return required material. Please note that the program dates are from Monday, May 24, 2021 - Friday, August 6, 2021. GSIP is a full-time training program that spans 11 weeks and cannot be combined with other daytime commitments.

Interns are required to attend orientation on Monday, May 17, 2021, the weekly GSIP seminar series and outreach activities. They must also present their summer research project at the poster session following the final day ceremony and attend the Farewell Dinner.

Any publications, patents, posters, talks or projects that result from an intern's participation in GSIP must credit the program by including the funding acknowledgment.

The Gates Summer Internship Program is open to applicants from all backgrounds who are in a science-related major and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of application. Former GSIP interns are encouraged to apply.

We welcome students from traditionally unrepresented groups in biomedical research, such as African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Pacific Islander, first-generation college students who are economically disadvantaged and students with disabilities.  Students from rural or inner-city areas with limited access to research opportunities are also encouraged to apply. Information on Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus can be found here.

International students who are attending a U.S. college or university are requested to contact us prior to applying to determine program eligibility.
