Events

CU Diabetes Research Center (DRC) is dedicated to providing a dynamic platform for its members and diabetes researchers to learn about and exchange the latest developments in diabetes research. Through a variety of engaging events and initiatives with noted clinical, translational, and basic researchers from across campus and around the country, the DRC fosters collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing among researchers, clinicians, and students.

The following are major and regular CU DRC events:

  • CU DRC Speaker Series
  • CU DRC Research In Progress (RIP) Series
  • Annual Diabetes Day

Investigating Fetal Pancreatic β-cell NFκB Signaling

Investigating Fetal Pancreatic β-cell NFκB Signaling as a Novel Pathway Linking Early Metabolic Dysfunction to Type 2 Diabetes Later in Life

Fetal growth restriction (FGR) results in intrauterine β-cell failure and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes later in life, but the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Dr. Alicia White’s groundbreaking research investigates these mechanisms, focusing on NFκB signaling adaptations in the pancreata of FGR fetuses.

NFκB, a calcium-sensitive transcription factor crucial for normal β-cell development, is at the center of this study. By examining early metabolic dysfunctions, Dr. White's work aims to uncover a novel mechanism connecting intrauterine β-cell failure to impaired calcium signaling and the subsequent development of type 2 diabetes in adulthood. Please join us and participate in the Q&A section.

When: May 5, 2025, 12 pm to 1 pm
Where: Barbara Davis Center (M20), Level 2, Main Conference Room 2104

Speaker:
Alicia White, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology, University of Colorado SOM, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Perinatal Research Center
