Jacqueline's Wish for the Heart Award is funded by generous support from The Jacqueline Leaffer Foundation. Its purpose is to support CU-SOM early career investigators (fellows, instructors & assistant professors) doing outstanding research in women's heart disease. This award, together with Jacqueline's Gift Fund, was established and funded to honor the life of Jacqueline Marie Leaffer. Learn more about the Leaffer family and read The Story of Jacqueline's Gift .
Eligible candidates will be evaluated on criteria appropriate to measure progress in research. Such criteria will include, but is not limited to research funding obtained, papers written, presentations delivered, discoveries made, peer recognition, leadership in the field and overall commitment to research.
In the past, this award has been used to fund travel to academic conferences related to research in heart disease and women's health. Given the travel restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased need to support early career researchers, the intended use of the award has been broadened and may be used to support any aspect of research in women's heart disease. Award amounts have ranged between $750 - $2,500.
