Each year, the Department of Anesthesiology offers one categorical (5-year program) and one advanced spot (4-year program) in an innovative program combining a residency in Anesthesiology and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine.
We are looking for trainees who are interested in an academic career in Anesthesiology and Critical Care. Your early commitment to critical care allows for continuous mentoring by one of our faculty intensivists. Our supervision and an abundance of elective time throughout the combined track provides you with the tools to participate and succeed in critical care specific research.
From the beginning of the track, you are exposed to extensive training in Point-of-Care Ultrasound and Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Critical Care Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs, and M&M conferences. Furthermore, we provide financial and academic time support for the annual attendance of critical care conferences.
During the PGY 4/5 Years, our program offers outstanding clinical exposure in our surgical, cardiothoracic, neuro-, medicine-, burn- and telemetry ICUs. Improved quality of life by alternating rotations in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine during the final two years of your residency allows you to enjoy Denver's growing, dynamic city and the endless outdoor opportunities in the Rocky Mountains with over 300 days of sunshine per year.
By the end of the program, you are not only eligible for the Board Certifications in Anesthesiology, Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care Ultrasound, and basic perioperative TEE, but you will also have taken significant steps towards your career development in Anesthesiology and Critical Care.
