Palliative Care and Aging Research Fellow
Zachary Macchi, MD, is an Aging and Palliative Care Research Fellow in the Department of Neurology at the University of
Colorado. He obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University
of Kansas and completed his residency in Neurology at the University of
Colorado (CU) Anschutz. An area of ongoing interest to Dr. Macchi is palliative
care for neurologic illness, or neuropalliative care. Throughout fellowship he
continues to work on a number of projects related to neuropalliative care for
patients with neurodegenerative conditions, like Alzheimer’s disease and
Parkinson’s disease. His
current work focuses on aggression as a behavioral disturbance in Parkinson’s
disease and other forms of parkinsonism, identifying factors which contribute
to such behaviors and their consequences for patients and caregivers while also
researching ways to detect and manage aggression in the outpatient setting.
